Someone bought me a (plant) asiflorum Lily in a plastic container with holes for my b-day. Do I plant the flower in the ground with the plastic container?

Dear Danielle,

You asked a question about a present you received of a potted Asiflorum Lily and how to take care of it.

As luck would have it you received a super present!! The Asiflorum Lily can be found in Lily catalogues under LA Hybrids. They’re a cross between an Asiatic and an Eastern Lily. These are very hardy bulbs that tolerate temperatures to -40 degrees (Zones 3-8) and can be planted in your home garden. We’re in Zone 5, so it’s really safe to plant these here in Northern Illinois. They will come back year to year.

Plant them in the full sun. They get about 36 inches tall depending on the variety. The bloom colors range from white, yellow, salmon, orange and red. They have large, waxy trumpet-like blooms that bloom from June to July.

They make great cut flowers from the garden. They are incredibly vigorous and are an incredible sight in the garden due to their great flowers. They also withstand wind and rain better than Asiatic Lilies.

You are one lucky lady to have gotten a gift like this!
