Garden Tour 2012

Anniversaries are for celebrating. This year we mark not one, but two!

Illinois Dunesland Garden Club is in its 75th year and
this our our 10th Annual Garden Tour.

Those who took advantage of this tour were treated to views of many various styles of gardens. Our local gardeners demonstrated their talents and we were able to see changes made in these gardens as they evolved over the last ten years.

The gardens were viewed by enthusiastic garden-lovers young and old despite the heat. They were open from 9:30 to 2:30. We provided the map of seven gardens and you toured at your leisure.

Anniversaries are for dreaming. What ideas did you take from these seven gardens for your own home and landscape? Visitors came from as far away as Antioch and Lake Bluff to enjoy the natural beauty and even get some new inspiration for to take home with them.

There was also a fantastic raffle of plants and garden items—a chance to win over forty different prizes with little investment, including original paintings, garden themed sweaters, gift cards and dozens of plants!

A great Thank You to all the garden hosts.

Is it Time Yet?

We’re all excited about getting out of the house and getting into the garden.
Since our 'meeting' (2nd Tuesday of April) is late this month, we are sharing our article on seed starting and germination early!

Try not to get overanxious. You need to pay attention to not only the air temperature but soil temperature also.
The most important requirements for seed germination are heat and moisture, and the amount and duration of each necessary for a specific vegetable.

View from my backyard April 2021

I would have to say spring has officially sprung in my backyard. I can see ducks in the little creek that flows when it rains. The snow has melted and the warmth of the sun has given way to so many native plants starting to unfurl their leaves and reach out to touch the sun.

I hope you take some time to step outside and enjoy the beauty of the (native) nature that is awakening all around us!
